D-NL roars at W-MU meet

WINFIELD - Danville-New London just keeps dominating in the sport of cross-country. The Bears dominated once again on Thursday when they swept the Winfield-Mt. Union meet, cruising through the boys race with 15 points and scoring 29 in the girls race to win it by three.
The top-ranked (2A) D-NL boys had seven of the top eight runners in the boys race. Ty Carr won the race in 16;50.65, followed by Alexander Julian in 16:52.44. Rylan Martin took third. Oliver Sowell was fourth. A.J. Bonnesen took fifth. Seth Bailey was sixth, and Mason Chipman took eighth.
Columbus took third in the boys race, scoring 91 points, which was two back from second-place Burlington. Isaac Acosta was the top Columbus runner, taking ninth in 18:13.96. Damian Vergara took 17th and Freddy Vergara was 19th to give the Wildcats three runners in the Top-20.
W-MU took ninth place in the boys standings and had one runner in the Top-20. Dane Sweezer came in 18th place, crossing in 19:07.89.
WACO didn't have enough points to compete in the boys standings. The top Warrior runner was Jonah Egli, who crossed in 20:45.31.
The 13th-ranked (2A) D-NL girls narrowly nipped No. 15 (1A) Montezuma by three points to take first. Addison Parrott, currently ranked No. 2 in Class 2A, won the race by over 12 seconds, crossing in 20:08.59.
D/NL had four runners in the Top-8. Carissa Mackey took fifth, Kamryn Sherwood was seventh, and Cassidy Yaley placed eighth.
W-MU, WACO and Columbus weren't able to score in the team standings. Avery Maeder led W-MU, taking 17th, in 24:41.88. WACO's top runner was McKenzie Vrandenberg, who ended the race in 25:29.28, and Columbus' top runner was Avery Sipes, who finished in 26:03.50.
