WAUKEE — It was an afternoon of fun for high school seniors brought together by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association All-Star games Saturday.
Seniors were divided into Red, White and Blue teams and each played the others. Local athletes Kellie Dallmeyer of Washington, Madie Anderson of Winfeld-Mount Union and Chelsey Huff of Van Buren County all participated.
Huff was on the Blue team as was Louisa-Muscatine’s Kylee Sanders. Dallmeyer and Anderson played for the Red Team.
The Blue Team went 2-0 behind Huff, who pitched 10 of the 14 innings.
Huff threw a complete game in a 12-5 win over White. She hurled the last three innings of a 3-2 win over Red. Huff recorded the final out of the second game with a strikeout.
“I think I had six or seven strikeouts in the first game and four in the second,” Huff said. “I hit one girl on the shin barely in the first game and walked three and one in the second.” Huff hit one batter during the whole season.
She had five trips to the plate, but four pop outs and one strike out. That was by Boone’s Emma Dighton, who was 10th in Class 4A with 149 strikeouts this season. Huff was ninth in Class 2A with 165 strikeouts, second at 0.76 in walks plus hits per inning pitched, third in earned run average (1.16), fifth in walks among pitchers with at least 100 innings pitched (17).
Dallmeyer was the catcher and went 1-for-3 in the first game and 0-1 with a walk in the second game. Dallmeyer was third in Class 4A with 64 hits, fourth in on-base percentage at .621, fifth in total bases at 111, fifth in triples, eighth in doubles and 13th in home runs. Dallmeyer was one of five players with 100 at bats or more who struck out four times or less.
Anderson pitched in both games for a total of seven innings. Her combined totals from the two games: one hit, one walk and 11 strikeouts. Anderson was third in Class 1A with 305 strikeouts. She was second in both ERA at 0.58 and WHIP at 0.57.
