Demon 7th grade girls play Ottumwa
The Washington seventh-grade girls basketball team played against Ottumwa Thursday, Jan. 19. The A team lost in overtime 23-25, while the B team won 23-22.

The Washington seventh-grade girls basketball team played against Ottumwa Thursday, Jan. 19. The A team lost in overtime 23-25, while the B team won 23-22.
In the A game, the two teams kept in close in the first half as they were tied 4-4 after the first quarter and were tied after the second quarter at 11-11.
Ottumwa had a small lead after the third as they were up 15-13, but Washington would rally and tie the game at 22-22 at the end of regulation.
At the end of the overtime period, it was Ottumwa who would pull ahead, winning by two points.
Gretta Rothe led the team in scoring with seven points, four rebounds and three steals. Chloe Staley scored four points, had one rebound, one steal and two fouls.
Kelsey Pacha also scored four points in the game, had nine rebounds, two steals and one foul.
Ella Leyden scored three points, had one rebound and one steal. Kyleigh Dolan scored three points and had two fouls.
Ava Turner rounded out the scoring with two points, three rebounds and had five fouls.
Elyse Hunt had two rebounds, three steals and four fouls. Emma Zahs had two rebounds. Grace Schiebel had two rebounds, one steal and one foul and Jenna Messer had three rebounds in the game.
Ottumwa would end the B game in the lead after the first quarter ended, with an 8-6 score. They would add to their lead in the second quarter as they would be up 18-12.
Washington would answer back from the break by keeping Ottumwa scoreless the entire frame as they would pull ahead going up 22-18.
It was close in the fourth quarter as Ottumwa would score four points, but Washington would make sure they would get the win as they scored five to end the game at 23-22 in Washington?s favor.
Rylee Fishback was the top scorer for the team with six points while having three rebounds and one steal. Hailey Flynn followed with five points, nine rebounds and one steal.
Zahs scored two points in the game while having one rebound and one steal. Messer also scored two points in the game and had one rebound, one steal and one foul.
Staley scored two points and had one rebound. Sami Smith scored two points as well and had one steal. Ausha Clark had two rebounds, four steals and one foul.
Brianna Williams had three rebounds and two steals. Danica Brown had one rebound. Leyden had four rebounds and two steals.
Lexi Dickerson had one rebound and one foul and Lindsey Lillie had one rebound, two steals and two fouls.
The girls next take to the court Thursday, Jan. 26, at home against Keokuk beginning at 4:30 p.m.
