It’s been a tough two game stretch for the Washington baseball team.
The Demons are still searching for their first victory of the season after a pair of losses to Muscatine, 5-2, and Solon 20-9.
Against Muscatine, the Demons gave up three runs in the first two innings.
After both teams went scoreless through the following three innings, the Demons got on the board as Luke Beenblossom and James Strabala each scored in the sixth to make it 3-2.
However, the Muskies went on to score a pair themselves in the seventh to increase the lead to 5-2.
Washington was unable to find the runs needed in the bottom half of the seventh and Muscatine took the win.
Beenblossom, Aaron Boone, Strabala, Lucas Zahs and Isaac Vetter all had hits in the loss.
On the hill, Conner Leyden, Noah Greiner and Caleb Zieglowsky combined for six hits, five runs (three earned), four walks and seven strikeouts.
Against Solon, the Spartans and Demons were knotted at 2-2 after three innings.
In the fourth, Solon took a 5-2 lead after the top half of the inning.
Washington answered back though with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 9-5.
The lead didn’t last though as the Demons would never score again, while Solon brought 15 runs home in the final three innings. That included nine runs in the seventh.
Chase Greiner led the Demons with three hits in the loss.
Luke Beenblossom had two hits with two RBIs.
James Strabala and Austin Rebling finished with two hits and one RBI. Isaac Vetter had a pair of hits as well.
Caleb Zieglowsky ended with one RBI.
Beenblossom, Ethan Patterson, Strabala, Lucas Zahs, Mason Morgan and Rebling all pitched for the Demons.
They allowed 11 hits, 20 runs (13 earned), 13 walks and eight strikeouts.
With the losses, Washington drops to 0-3 on the season.
