The Washington baseball team learned their postseason fate a few days ago, when the Class 3A district and substate brackets were released.
Substate 5 contains all five members of the Southeast Conference, but for the Demons to see any of those familiar opponents, they first have to get out of District 9, which features Clear Creek Amana and Mount Vernon.
However, Washington will open up its district semifinal on Friday, July 15, when they take on Solon, with Solon playing on its home field.
The Demons will have the night game, playing at 7 p.m., and the contest will come three days after taking on the Spartans in the final regular season game of the year on July 12.
If Washington advances past Solon, they will play the winner of Mount Vernon and Clear Creek Amana at Solon?s field on July 18 at 7 p.m.
A big advantage for the Demons could lie in the substate round, which could feature any of the other four Southeast Conference teams who reside in District 10.
The substate game will be held at Washington on Wednesday, July 20.
In District 10, Fairfield will host Fort Madison, while Mt. Pleasant will take on Keokuk, with those two winners meeting in the district final, vying for a chance at substate.
