WASHINGTON — The Washington and Highland boys soccer teams were at Washington Wellness Park on Thursday for the first area clash of the year, as the Demon girls traveled north to Williamsburg to play in their road uniforms.
The Demon boys had too much for Highland, knocking the Huskies off 5-0. The Demon girls were defeated, falling 1-0.
Washington’s boys' team got off to a red-hot start in the first half. The Demons poured in three goals in the first 40 minutes to grab a commanding lead before the break.
Washington only added two more in the second half, but by that time, the damage had been done.
Emanuel Raymundo had the hot foot for Washington, scoring three goals on seven shots to pace the Demons. He also assisted on one of the other two goals.
Angel Mata had one goal and one assist for the Washington boys. Edwin Cortes finished the night with one goal, and freshman Braedon Tappan pitched a shut out in net.
Highland’s Logan McFarland had four shots on the day to lead the Huskies. Three of those shots went on goal. Jared Diaz added one shot on net in two tries. Ayden Havel gave up five goals but saved 18 Washington shots.
Washington and Williamsburg played in a low-scoring battle. Demon keeper Aleigha Medley pitched a shut out in net in the first half and the game was 0-0 at the break.
Kate Flannery stepped into the net for Washington in the second half. The Demons once again played well defensively, but one Raider shot slipped into the net, and that’s all Williamsburg needed.
Angeline Anderson got off an incredible 10 total shots, and six shots on goal. Giselle Marclino had six shots, three of which went on net, and Audrey Anderson had five shots, with one going on net.
The Demon boys are now 1-0 to start the season. The Highland boys and Washington girls are both 0-1.
