OSKALOOSA — They say it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish, but that wasn’t entirely true on Tuesday night.
The Washington boys basketball team exploded out of the gates, scoring a game high in points in the first quarter and holding onto a late lead to win 62-57.
The Demons jumped out to a 22-13 lead after the first quarter. They kept it up in the second, scoring 19 points to lead 41-23 at the break.
Oskaloosa didn’t waiver. The Indians scored 19 of their own in the third, cutting the lead to 48-42 before the final quarter.
Oskaloosa kept the pressure up in the fourth, but Washington hung on in the final minutes to get out with a win.
Drew Conrad had a night, scoring 19 points to lead the team. Logan McDole added 15 points, and Nic Stone finished with nine.
It was Washington’s fifth-straight win over Oskaloosa in the all-time series. The Demons have beaten the Indians five times since December of 2020.
Washington is now 3-3 on the year. The Demons are on a two-game losing streak heading into a home game against Mt. Pleasant on Friday night.
The Demons will come into the Mt. Pleasant game 1-1 in the Southeast Conference. The Panthers enter 3-3 overall and 2-0 in league play.
