WELLMAN - Washington High School captured its first team win at a boys track meet this season when it won the Hawk Relays at Mid-Prairie Tuesday. The hosts finished fifth.
'We don't do it for the team scores, but if everything goes well, that is what happens when everything somes together,” Washington coach Steve Roth said.
The Demons won the meet with only three event victories, but scored well throughout the lineup.
'It was a team deal,” Roth said. 'We had an issue last year, we talked about it on the bus and we were prepared. It was an exciting fun night. Everone contributed.”
Washington sophomore Spencer Sotelo won the long jump, leaping 20 feet, 0.5 inches and senior Lincoln Kleese was second at 18-7.5. Freshman Kasen Bailey won the high jump at 5 feet, 11 inches and Wyatt Stout, a sophomore, was fourth at 5-8. Junior Ethan Hunt was first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.74 seconds.
