Demon boys golf completes perfect SEC season
Washington edges Fairfield by 5 in final league meet

FORT MADISON — The Washington boys golf team completed a perfect season in the Southeast Conference regular season on Monday.
After winning every other meet in league play this season, Washington grinded out a five-stroke win over Fairfield at Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course in Fort Madison.
The Demons shot 163 for first place. Fairfield took second, shooting 168, and Mt. Pleasant finished 15 strokes behind the Trojans with a 183, for third.
With the win, Washington wrapped up the 2023 SEC regular season championship.
The Demons were led by Roman Roth, who shot a 38 to win medalist honors by two strokes. Rajan Roth was right behind Roman, shooting a 40.
Drew Conrad finished at 41 for the Demons. Isaac Vetter earned fourth scorer honors, with a 44. Teague Mayer finished at 46, and Luke Beenblossom shot 47.
Fairfield’s Sam Weaton tied Rajan Roth for second on the day, shooting 40. Behind him were Max Weaton and Austin Lisk, who each finished at 41.
Dev Eisner shot a 46 for the Trojans. Landon Nodurft finished at 47, and Nile Christensen ended the day at 50.
Mt. Pleasant’s Nate Dismang led his team, shooting 43 on the day. Reece Coffman was close behind him, with a 44.
Nick Matheney and Ben Meador tied at 48 each for the Panthers. Grant Willham finished at 59, and Izaac Zihlman shot 66.
Overall, Washington’s total stroke total of 928 in the regular season helped them win the championship by 79 points. Fairfield was second, with 1,007. Mt. Pleasant finished third, with 1,106.
Individually, Washington’s Roman Roth had a stroke total of 180, which was calculated without his worst score added. Rajan Roth was right behind him with 182, and Conrad’s 197 earned the Demons the Top-3 scores overall.
Fairfield’s Max Weaton finished the regular season slate at 203, for fourth. Fairfield’s Eisner and Mt. Pleasant’s Matheney each shot 205 to tie for fifth.
The teams will return to Fort Madison for the conference tournament later in the year. Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course will play host to the SEC championship on May 3.
