Demon boys golf edges Panthers, Trojans again
For 2nd-straight meet, Washington has just enough to slip past SEC foes

MT. PLEASANT — Yet another Southeast Conference golf meet was decided by just a handful of strokes on Thursday as Mt. Pleasant welcomed in area foes for the Panthers’ home boys golf meet. For the second-straight outing, it was Washington that secured gold.
The Demon boys shot 177 on a windy day at Mt. Pleasant Country Club. The Panthers were five strokes behind, at 182. Fairfield finished one stroke behind Mt. Pleasant, with a 183.
Another consistent day across the board anchored the Demons’ surge. All seven Demons shot 50 and under, with the four scorers shooting no higher than 47.
Roman Roth and Grant Sobaski shot 43 each to lead the Demons. Teague Mayer shot turned in a 44, and Isaac Vetter finished at 47 to round out the four scorers.
Isaac Vetter finished just outside of Washington’s top four, with a 47. John Prochaska ended at 48.
Mt. Pleasant’s Nick Matheney had the hot hand of the day. The 2021 SEC champion shot a 38 to win individual medalist honors. Reece Kempker finished at 42, for third.
Nate Dismang and Reece Coffman shot 48 and 54 respectively to wrap up Mt. Pleasant’s scorers. Izaac Zihlman shot a 61, and Ben Meador finished at 66.
Fairfield didn’t get anyone below 43, but all the Trojans finished at 51 or under.
Dev Eisner came out on top, shooting 43 to pace the Trojans. Nate Smithburg was right behind him, at 44. Max Weaton shot 46. Sam Weaton and Nile Christensen each ended at 50, and Evan Haines finished out at 51.
The Demons, Panthers and Trojans will all be back in action on Monday in Washington.
