Demon boys, Panthers girls top Washington Invite

WASHINGTON — Five Union area coverage teams competed in the Demons Relays in Washington on Thursday evening.
By the end of the festivities, the Mt. Pleasant girls and Washington boys stood atop their perspective rankings. The Panther girls finished with a total of 151 points, while the Demon boys tallied 142.
The Mid-Prairie boys were the next highest placing Union area team. The Golden Hawks finished second overall with 115 points. Finishing with a 96 points for fourth was the Mt. Pleasant boys. The Washington girls ended with a fourth-place finish totaling 85 points.
The Washington boys had the most winners of the area teams, with six first place finishers.
Lance Sobaski was a two-time winner for the Demons.
Sobaski shattered the previous meet record, 9:49.41, in the 3200-meter run, finishing with a time of 9:41.96. He followed up his 3200-meter performance with a first place finish in the 800-meter, clocking a time of 2:00.04.
Elijah Morris took the 400-meter dash crown with a time of 50.95.
In shot put, Brayden Hartman out threw everyone with a toss of 50 feet 3 inches.
The Demons also picked up two relay wins.
Ethan Patterson, Austin Rebling, Jacob Miller and Alec Ulin grabbed a first place medal for Washington in the 4x200 with a time of 1:34.37.
In the 4x400-meter, Ulin, Logan McDole, Evan Miller and Cameron Vongpanya were winners with a finish of 3:37.25.
The Mt. Pleasant girls finished with three winners in the competition.
Kenna Lamm and Jadan Brumbaugh were each individual winners. Lamm took the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.97. Brumbaugh dominated the shot put, breaking her previous meet record with a throw of 43 feet and 9.50 inches.
Jenna Gilmore, Abby Blint, Allie Westercamp and Lamm won the shuttle hurdle relay posting a time of 1:08.92.
For the Mt. Pleasant boys, Bryce Wilson and Avin Truong were both victorious. Wilson was the top placer in the 110-meter hurdles with a 15.63. Truong won long jump with a leap of 20 feet and 4.75 inches.
Washington’s Quincy Griffis was the lone winner for the Demon girls. Griffis’ 11:54.77 was the best time in the 3000-meter.
Mid-Prairie had a nice showing on the track and in the field.
Carter Harmsen had the best throw in discus with a toss of 135 feet and 6 inches.
In the 1600-meter run, Thaddeus Shetler posted a time of 4:37.48 for the title.
The Golden Hawks picked up one relay win with Cain Brown, Harmsen, Will Cavanagh and Shetler winning the distance medley with a time of 3:41.43.
