The Washington Demon boys track and field team took a trip to Mt. Pleasant Thursday to compete in a track meet. There was no team score kept but that didn?t mean Washington didn?t feel a competitive spirit. Demon boys? head coach Steve Roth said he was pleased with how his team performed, especially in light of the chilly conditions.
Roth said that Matt Kuntz impressed him in the 400 meter dash, where he placed third with a time of 54.10.
?Matt Kuntz did well in the 400,? he said. ?He really ran well and is running like he should be running. He?s doing better than last year.?
Roth said Noah Lebsack, who anchored the medley relay and who ran the first leg of the 4x400 also ran well.
?Noah is only a sophomore and he had an exceptional night,? Roth said.
Roth said that he was also pleased with the way Kyle Roder ran, who came in sixth in the 200 meter dash.
?He?s really back on track,? Roth said. ?I was impressed with the way he performed.?
Jake Redlinger placed sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.40. Colin Steele placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.88.
Roth said he was also proud of how the relays went. The 4x100 meter relay team of Carl Sivels, Parker Turner, Alex Coker and Jake Redlinger came in at 45.43. The 4x400 team of Lebsack, Spencer Woods, Mitchell Hora and Justin Hoffman came in fifth with a time of 3:51. The distance medley ran a time of 3:56.47 and its team was Roder, Kuntz, Jordan Kay and Lebsack.
?We didn?t have any rain but we did have a 30-minute lightning delay,? Roth said. ?Other than that, it was dry, cold and windy. It was not really ideal for running. It was really chilly, so I didn?t run three to four guys because they had injuries. It?s never good to run with an injury but it?s 10 times worse when it?s cold.?
Roth said Jake Redlinger is leading the area in the high jump but he got the night off to concentrate on his running. He said his team is also improving in field events such as the discus and shot put and improving in distance events.
?For this early in the season, we?re satisfied with where we are,? Roth said.
