The Washington boys? basketball team ended the weekend on a high note, as they split a pair of games on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday night, the Demons went down to Fort Madison, where they couldn?t answer a second-half surge by the Bloodhounds, falling 62-49.
In the second game of the weekend, the Demons responded with a strong offensive showing, picking up a 76-68 victory over the Tipton Tigers, bolstered by a 29-point outburst from senior Derek Anding.
In the contest against Fort Madison, sophomore Jack Redlinger was the only Demon who found his way into double-digit scoring, notching 17 points in the game, to go with four rebounds and three steals.
Anding picked up nine points and three assists in the loss, as the Demons shot 38 percent from the field.
Despite a six-point first quarter on Friday night, Washington was able to play to a 22-21 halftime lead with Fort Madison, but the Bloodhounds turned things around in the second half.
The Bloodhounds picked up a four-point lead after the third quarter, then posted a 23-point fourth quarter to close out the game.
Against Tipton, Anding hit a trio of 3-pointers, and was perfect on his free throw attempts to notch the team-high 29 points, while Redlinger also hit three 3-pointers for 18 points to go with a team-best three assists.
The Demons upped their shooting percentage to 45.9 percent during Saturday?s game, while John Dillon scored six points and had a team-high eight rebounds.
After trailing by four at the end of the first quarter, the Demons turned on the jets, and posted a 23-point second quarter to take the lead. The Demons carried that momentum into the second half, and didn?t allow the Tigers to claw back into the game, picking up the win.
The Washington boys now sit at 5-10 on the year, and will host Mid-Prairie on Tuesday night. The game will be held at the Middle School gym, due to regional duals being hosted at the high school.
