Demon boys take seventh at Wapello

The Washington boys? track team was short-handed in a meet at Wapello, but a few athletes made noise for the Demons on Tuesday.

Sophomore Brennan Horak set PRs in both the 3200 and 1600-meter runs, finishing in second place in the 3000 meters with a time of 11:05.07.

In his second season, head coach Steve Roth said he has seen a lot of growth out of Horak.

?He had a great race; 11:05 is his PR and one of the better races of his career,? Roth said. ?He never lost contact with the pack and ran the first 1600 in third or fourth and worked his way up. It was a convincing second place. He PR?d in the 1600 as well. He has a great work ethic and he?s going to get better and better.?

Also earning individual points for the Demons was junior Caleb Bex, who took fifth in the 110-meter hurdles.

Bex also helped the 4x200-meter relay team of Ethan Hansen, Bryce Rickey and Kevin Dallmeyer earn a pair of points with a fifth-place finish.

?We were short-handed,? Roth said. ?I ran a lot of kids in some events that they haven?t run this year, and a lot stepped up. Mason Sinn, a freshman, went out and had a 2:14 in the 4x800, ran a 55-second quarter mile in the medley, and a 24.5 in the 4x200. Outstanding night for him.?
