Demon boys win in Iowa City

IOWA CITY — The Washington cross-country teams were at the Iowa City Kickers meet hosted by Iowa City Regina. It was a chance for the Demon boys to show why they’re one of the best teams in Eastern Iowa.

Washington won the boys’ meet with 66 points, placing four runners into the Top-11 to finish 15 points ahead of Solon for the top spot.

It was another big performance from senior Micah Rees, who won the meet by 10 seconds. Rees finished in 16 minutes, 10.98 seconds to top the field.

Rees wasn’t the only Demon in the Top 8. Tyler Alderton crossed in eighth place, just outside of seventh, with a time of 17:48.10.

Andrew Rees and Lane Schrock weren’t far behind, finishing in 17:57.73 and 18:01.25 respectively to take 10th and 11th.

Kael Malichty finished 36th overall for the Demons. Andrew Shepherd took 42nd. Sawyer Tschantz took 61st.

The Demon girls took fifth overall, eight points behind Tipton’s fourth-place 103. Clear Creek-Amana won on the girls’ side, scoring 73 points.

Iris Dahl paced the Washington girls, finishing fifth place overall in 21:13.15. Lauren Horak was the next Demon down the list, taking 19th, in 22:15.93, and Quincy Griffis gave the team three in the Top-25 with a 22nd-place 22:28.15.

Alyvia Anderson and Angeline were neck-and-neck, with Alyvia finishing 38th and Angeline taking 39th. Isabelle Lujan was the seventh Demon across, taking 45th.
