Washington girls 2nd, boys 3rd at Anamosa meet

ANAMOSA — The Washington cross-country team kicked off the 2023 season in Anamosa. The Demon girls’ team took second place, and the boys finished third.
The fourth-ranked Demon girls finished with 82 points on the day, falling only to eighth-ranked Solon’s score of 55.
The Demons were led by Quincy Griffis, who crossed the tape in 22 minutes, 8 seconds, for 12th place overall. Lauren Horak took 15th, in the time of 22:37.
Iris Dahl wasn’t too far behind Horak, finishing 17th place, in 22:40. Alyvia Anderson finished in 23:09, for 18th.
Isabella Lujan finished in the Top-20 as well, taking 20th place, in 23:22. Kendall Hinrichsen crossed 21st, in 23:27, and Abigail Kleese took 23rd, in 23:33.
The Demon boys scored 65 points on the day to finish third place, falling to Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Solon.
Micah Rees crossed the tape in second, finishing in 16:06, just three seconds behind overall winner Adam Gray of Kennedy.
Tyler Alderton and Andrew Rees each finished in the Top-10. Alderton crossed ninth, in 17:44, and Rees took 10th, in 17:45.
Lane Schrock finished 19th place, crossing the tape in 18:44. Sawyer Tschantz was 25th, in 19:26. Kael Malichky finished 28th, in 19:19, and Andrew Shepherd finished 41st, in 20:33.
