OSKALOOSA - It was a struggle on offense for the Washington football team on Friday night in Oskaloosa. The Demons couldn’t quite keep up with the hosting Indians in a 28-14 loss.
The Demons did strike first when quarterback Logan McDole struck gold on 4th and 17 at the end of the first quarter. McDole found Mason Morgan for a 21-yard touchdown to put the Demons up 6-0.
Oskaloosa however, would score the next 22 points. The Indians led 12-6 at halftime and put up 10 more points in the third to stretch that lead to 22-6.
Washington got back into it in the fourth quarter when Kael Williams scampered into the end zone from 12 yards out, and a two-point conversion cut the Indian advantage to 22-14, but the ensuing onside kick failed.
Oskaloosa put the final hammer in the coffin in the final 30 seconds of the game with a 3-yard rushing touchdown.
McDole finished the game with 95 yards and one touchdown passing, as well as 30 yards rushing. Williams rushed for 57 yards and a score.
Morgan caught two passes for 31 yards and a touchdown. Williams had two catches for 24 yards, and Conner Layden caught one pass for 20 yards.
Casen Evans led the Demons with six tackles on the day. Caden Greiner had 5.5 tackles, and Morgan finished with five tackles and one interception, the lone Demon takeaway on the night.
Washington (0-1) will continue non-district play with a home game against Burlington (0-1) on Friday.
