The Washington girls? track team saw one of its seniors take a meet title at the Pen Relays on Tuesday afternoon.
McKayla Miller continued her strong season with a meet title in the shot put at the Fort Madison hosted event, using a toss of 34 feet to claim crown.
Miller also added a throw of 84 feet ? 2 inches in the discus to take fourth in the event.
?McKayla is having an outstanding senior season,? Washington girls? track coach Stefanie Tschantz said. ?She continues to get stronger every meet. She threw a PR (at the meet). She really wants to qualify for state this year and is working hard to accomplish that.?
The meet in Fort Madison also featured multiple top-5 finishes by the Demons, led by senior Kelly Wheeler, who ran a 13.25 in the 100-meter dash to take third.
?That was just Kelly?s second meet of the season, as she had CNA clinicals earlier in the season,? Tschantz said. ?She is definitely one of our top sprinters. For her to get third in the 100 in Fort Madison with that level of competition is great; she didn?t have the best start but was able to close well.?
Washington also saw Isabel Bailey claim third in the long jump (13 feet ? 5 inches), while senior Amber Salow jumped 13 feet ? 2 inches to take fifth.
Jenah Greiner finished in fourth in the 200-meter dash with a 28.74, Makenzi Marek took fourth in the high jump, clearing 4 feet ? 6 inches, and Maggie Voss finished fifth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 13:28.02.
?I think the meet went very well,? Tschantz said. ?We had several PRs at Fort Madison and it definitely helped our confidence. When you run against teams like Cedar Rapids Jefferson, who holds state records, we know we won?t beat them but we can run our hardest and try to get a PR. When they compete like that we can?t ask anything more out of them. It was a great meet overall and I was very proud of the effort the girls showed.?
