Despite a windy day, the Demon girls? track team pushed through to a third place finish on Tuesday night.
Washington took part in the Falcon Relays in West Burlington, and took 93 points throughout the day to finish behind West Burlington and Mt. Pleasant.
Washington knocked off Fairfield by six points at the meet.
?It was nice to finally compete outdoors last night and see a full lineup,? Washington girls? track coach Stefanie Tschantz said. ?We finished third as a team which I was pleased with since we were missing a few girls. I expect times to continue to drop throughout the season as we get in better shape and get our handoffs down a little better.?
The highlight of the day came from the Demons? shuttle hurdle relay team of Carolan Hoffman, Mackenzie Knutson, Emma Wood and Jessie Buchholz, who combined to post a time of 1:12.97 and claim the Falcon Relays crown.
?They had a great race,? Tschantz said. ?They were only one second off what they ran at the end of last year. With three of them being seniors, I know they really want to go out with a bang and finish up at State. The wind last night made it tough, but I was very pleased with how they ran. I expect to see that time continue to drop throughout the season.?
Isabel Bailey picked up a third-place finish to lead the runners, posting a 1:07.69 in the 400-meter dash.
Emme Keith took fourth individually in the 1500-meter run, while Jenah Greiner took fifth in the 200-meter dash and Maggie Voss finished fifth in the 3200-meter run.
In the field events, McKayla Miller continued her strong start to the season, picking up second in the shot put and fourth in the discus.
Madelyn Janecek took third in the high jump, while Greiner finished in third in the long jump.
In the relay events, Washington saw its 4x800, sprint medley and distance medley take second place.
Washington will prepare for a meet at Mediapolis on Thursday.
