The Washington girls? golf team had a strong second meet of the season on Thursday afternoon, taking the crown at Flint Hills Golf Course.
The Demons shot a team score of 173 to dispatch Burlington, who carded a team score of 192.
?We played very well and the best part was that we are starting to get more accurate with our shots,? Washington girls? golf head coach Leonard Kull said. ?It was a short course, but pretty tight. They did a good job of keeping the ball in play and scoring when they had the opportunity.?
Leading the team for the second straight meet was freshman Sarah Nacos, who put together an impressive nine-hole round of 34 on a beautiful, calm day.
?She had an excellent round and is playing beyond her years as far as being confident and composed out there,? Kull said. ?The thing that impresses me the most is her distance control with her irons.?
Following Nacos was junior Deanna Peiffer, who put together a round of 43, which according to Kull, could have easily been even lower.
?She had her best round, except for a couple of holes at the end,? Kull said. ?Things got a little away from her a couple of holes in a row.?
Senior Sarah Waite put together a round of 45 for the Demons, her best of the season so far, while Brenna Burlingame followed her with a 51.
Megan Strabala had a 55 and Brenna Weidman had a 60 to round out the scores for the Demons.
Washington will host a pair of meets next week, starting on Monday when Mt. Pleasant comes to play at the Washington Golf and Country Club.
