WASHINGTON — The Washington boys golf team needed to get Top-2 in order to advance to next week’s district tournament, and the Demons did one better.
Washington won the sectional tournament at Washington Golf and Country club, defending their home course with a final score of 322, which was 14 strokes better than second place Osky, and 17 better than third-place Pella.
Due to Washington hosting the meet, the Demons were the only team that needed to get into the Top-2. All other teams were eligible to advance if they finished Top-3.
Washington was led by sectional champion Roman Roth, who put together a 76 to win the meet by four strokes. Rajan Roth wasn’t far behind, shooting 80 to tie for second.
Drew Conrad and Teague Mayer both scored for the Demons, with each shooting 83. Isaac Vetter finished at 85, and Luke Beenblossom shot 91.
Fairfield’s Max Weaton was one of two individual qualifiers, which came from the field of players not on one of the Top-3 teams.
Weaton did just enough, shooting 81 to tie for fourth overall with Fort Madison’s Brennan Ulik.
The next Trojan down the line was Sam Weaton, who shot 88. Landon Noddurft finished at 91, and Dave Eisner shot 93 to round out the Trojan scorers.
Fairfield’s Nile Christensen ended his day at 97. Austin Lisk shot 106.
Mt. Pleasant took seventh overall on the day. The Panthers shot 387.
Nick Matheney led Mt. Pleasant, finishing his 18-hole round at 88. Nate Dismang shot 93, and Reece Coffman ended at 94.
Ben Meador shot 112 to round out the Panther scorers. Grant Willham shot 123, and Izaac Zihlman finished at 134.
The Demons, as well as Weaton, will be in Pella for the district tournament on Monday. Golfers who advance past districts are state tournament bound.
