Demon middle school wrestlers get an eye-opener at Pekin
The Washington middle school wrestling team was one of eight teams to wrestle at a tournament at Pekin on Nov. 30. The Demons won 23 of their 51 matches while going up against wrestlers from Cardinal, Davis County, Eddyville-Blakesburg, Iowa Valley, Louisa-Muscatine, Sigourney and host Pekin.

?This was a new meet for us with new competition,? Washington head coach Shawn Ellingson said. ?A lot of the schools were smaller, but they brought some really good wrestlers. Some of our better kids got an eye-opener and lost some matches.?
Trey Van Weelden, Seth Townsend, Andrew Waite, Alex Latcham, Chris Dickle and Karlton Skubal each went 2-0 at the meet, while Chandler Reid, Tanner Murphy and Gabe Greiner each went 1-0. Kyle Anderson went 2-1 on the day, while Austin Hazelett, Clayton Pacha, Collin Murphy, Bryce Craft, Dakota Kron and Kiowa Keith each won one match.
