A considerable delay and a new ball didn?t stop the Washington boys? bowling team from a big day on Saturday afternoon.
After the meet started nearly three hours late due to an issue with the lanes not being oiled, the Demons claimed the triangular title over Mt. Pleasant and West Central (Illinois) at Iris Lanes in Mt. Pleasant.
The Demons trailed by 12 pins heading into the Baker games, where they outscored the Panthers by 56 to claim the meet title with a 2,615.
Individually, the Demons were led by freshman Riley Lambert who was bowling with a brand-new ball. That didn?t faze him as he posted a 206 in his first game and a 170 in Game 2 for a team-best 376.
?His parents took him to Muscatine right after league bowling yesterday morning, and he barely got back to the lanes in time to get on the bus at 11:45,? Washington head coach Sally Reighard said. ?Normally the guy who drills the balls takes them out on the lanes to check the fit but didn?t have time because Riley had to get back to make the bus. He had only the practice balls he threw before the meet began to get used to the new ball.?
Lambert was followed by sophomore Tucker Renoux and Bailey Curtis who each notched a 343. Renoux had a 184 in his first game and followed that up with a 159, while Curtis bowled a 145 with a 198 to close out the individual rounds.
Junior Kolton Segebart bowled a 199 in his first game en route to a 337, while junior Collin Zear had a 169 and 141 for a combined score of a 310. Junior Kylan Gillette rolled a 142, 164 for a 306.
In the Baker games, the Demons steadily improved. After failing to break 160 in the first two sets, the Demons closed out the meet with a 185, 193 and finally a 223 as they claimed the meet by 44 pins.
On the girls? side of the meet, senior Erin Bailey led the way with a 124 in each game for a 248, with freshman Trista Kelley notching a 117 and 119 for a score of 236.
Sophomore Anna Marie Walter recorded a 225 with games of 107 and 118 with senior Chyenne Gillette notching a 181 (74, 107) and Emily Kimmel finishing the meet with a 112 (62, 50).
The Demon girls finished with a combined team score of 1,447 behind triangular champion Mt. Pleasant, who had a 2,139.
