WASHINGTON — The Washington bowling teams each took losses in non-conference action on Monday night. The Demon boy were done by Hillcrest Academy, 4-0, on the road. The girls fell 5-3 to Oskaloosa at home.
Hillcrest Academy controlled the boys’ game from the start, scoring three goals early to take a 3-0 lead into the halftime break. The Ravens put up one more goal in the second half.
Rowan Miller scored two goals and dished out one assist to lead Hillcrest Academy. Mason Helmuth had a goal and an assist. Mason Bender had one goal, and Jesse Blossom finished with one assist.
Hillcrest’s Kyle Neuschwander and Andrew Kauffman split time in net. Kauffman had to save one shot, but otherwise it was a quiet night in the Hillcrest goal.
The Demon girls took a 2-0 record into Monday’s home game against Oskaloosa, but the Indians started out hot, scoring the first three goals of the game.
Washington was able to cut the lead to 3-1 with a goal from Angeline Anderson with 10:18 remaining in the first half.
Oskaloosa scored once more in the first period to get the lead to 4-1, but Washington scored the next two.
Luna Cuevas found Jocci Carter with a nice pass just eight minutes into the second half, and Carter buried it into the corner of the net to cut the Oskaloosa lead to 4-2. Then, with just under 29 minutes remaining, Ashley Ramirez sent one in from a tough angle to cut the lead to 4-3.
Unfortunately for Washington, the Demon offense couldn’t put another goal into the net, and Oskaloosa added one later on in the second half to put it away.
The Demon boys fell to 0-3 with the loss. Hillcrest is 1-1 on the boys’ side. The Washington girls dropped to 2-1 with their first loss of the year.
