MT. PLEASANT — Overtime is becoming a norm for Mt. Pleasant and Washington boys soccer.
On Thursday, the pair went the distance and some in their second Southeast Conference meeting this season as Washington walked away winners 3-2.
In the previous meeting, Mt. Pleasant held a 2-0 lead at the half, but the Demons bounced back with three of their own in the second to take the win.
The latest meeting saw Mt. Pleasant jump out to a 2-0 lead within the first five minutes of the game, but it wouldn’t hold up.
Jonah Zimmer and Kolbien Ostby each scored a goal for the Panthers in that span.
It was all Washington from then on out. The Demons got on the board off an assist from Edwin Cortes, who connected with Lucky Lindsey for the opening Washington goal.
By halftime, the Mt. Pleasant lead was at just one, 2-1.
Washington found the tying goal after Lane Schrock buried the ball into the net off a Demon corner kick, making it 2-2.
That’s how full time would end as the game headed to extra time.
It didn’t take Washington long to seal it. In less than a minute, Washington’s Bill De La Rosa notched the game winner off a pass from Fletcher Brower.
Lucas Lindsey, Lane Schrock and Bill De La Rosa all had a goal for the Demons. Edwin Cortes and Fletcher Brower each had an assist.
In goal, Braedon Tappan finished with eight saves.
For Mt. Pleasant, Kolbein Ostby and Jonah Zimmer each had a goal and an assist.
Washington improves to 4-1 in SEC play and 6-2 overall with the victory.
Mt. Pleasant drops to 2-6 and 2-3 in SEC play.
The Demons followed up the win with another victory on Saturday. Washington defeated Hillcrest Academy 3-1 in that matchup.
