Demon softball blasts Bloodhounds
Washington puts up 20 in SEC doubleheader

WASHINGTON — The ninth-ranked (3A) Washington softball team moved to 5-0 in Southeast Conference play with two home wins over Fort Madison on Monday night.
The Demons, who swept Mt. Pleasant in Week 1 of SEC play, scored double-digit runs in both games, beating the Bloodhounds 10-2 in Game 1, and 10-3 in Game 2.
Washington trailed 2-0 early in Game 1, but it didn’t take long for the Demons to rattle the bats. Washington scored five in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth and one more in the fifth.
Leighton Salazar went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the win. Lauren Hinrichsen and Kendall Hinrichsen each knocked in two. Ella Greiner went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Colbie Greiner knocked in one.
Bella Salazar was in the circle for the opener, giving up just three earned runs on seven hits and two walks, while striking out 12.
Fort Madison held another temporary lead in Game 2. The Bloodhounds scored two first-inning runs for the second-straight game, but the Demons hit right back.
Washington scored five runs in the first inning and five more in the fourth to run away with the game.
Leighton Salazar went 4-for-5 with an RBI in Game 2. Alyvia Anderson was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Ella Greiner went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Coblie Greiner, Emery Walton, Lauren Hinrichsen and Kendall Hinrichsen all knocked in one.
Colbie Greiner threw five innings for the Demons in the Game 2 win, giving up just two earned runs. Halle Cuddeback shut the Bloodhounds out in the final two innings. Both pitchers struck out three batters.
The Demons are now 9-3 overall and 5-0 in the SEC, tied with Burlington for first place. Washington travel to Fort Madison (5-5, 3-2) on Thursday night.
