KEOKUK — The Washington softball team made quick work of hosting Keokuk in a Southeast Conference clash on Thursday night.
The Demons needed a win to stay alive for an outright SEC title, and they got one in three innings, crushing the Chiefs 13-3.
Washington put up five runs in the first inning, five in the second and three in the third to take a 13-0 lead. Keokuk needed two in the bottom of the third to keep things going, but the Chiefs could only get one.
Bella Salazar dominated in the circle, giving up one earned run on four hits on one walk over a three-inning complete game. She needed just 42 pitches to earn the victory.
Ella Greiner had a big game at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Lauren Hinrichsen, Salazar and Emery Walton all knocked two runs in. Colbie Greiner had a double and an RBI, and Leighton Salazar was 3-for-3 with a double.
The win not only put Washington at 18-10 overall, but also helped the Demons move to 10-2 in conference play. That puts Washington just two games behind Burlington for first, with three games to go.
Washington just so happens to be traveling to Burlington on Monday night for the first two of a three-game series. If the Demons can sweep the Grayhounds, the SEC title will be up for grabs on Thursday when the two teams meet again.
