10th-ranked Washington wins 4-straight games

WASHINGTON — It’s softball season in Washington again, and the Demons are looking as sharp as ever to start out the new year.
After falling in a marquee ranked matchup in the season opener, Washington responded with four-straight wins. The Demons swept Cardinal 8-1 and 10-2 on Wednesday, then took out Ottumwa, 3-2 and 6-3, on Friday.
Washington went deep twice in the opening game against Cardinal. Alyvia Anderson finished the game 3-for-4 with a home run, ad ouble and three RBIs, and Ella Greiner went 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs as well.
Colbie Greiner pitched in the first game, giving up just one earned runs on nine hits, while striking out an impressive 15 batters.
Washington opened up the scoring early in the second game, scoring seven runs in the first inning and never looking back.
Eighth-grader Kaleah Gerdes went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the win for Washington, whileBella Salazar threw four innings and struck out five batters to get the win in the circle.
The Demons had to rely on some late-game heroics against Ottumwa. Washington walked off in Game 1, when Ella Greiner bunted Leighton Salazar home with one out. In Game 2, the Demons scored four runs in the final two at-bats.
Colbie Greiner struck out 15 batters in a complete game win in Game 1 against Ottumwa. Bella Salazar went all seven and struck out eight batters in Game 2.
