The weather has not been kind to the first couple of weeks of the 2024 high school spring sports season.
Tuesday was supposed to be a packed day of action, which was set to include the Southeast Conference girls’ golf teams traveling to Washington, with the boys’ teams meeting in Fairfield.
The soggy weather wreaked havoc on local sports on Tuesday, and also postponed some golf on Wednesday. The hope around Southeast Iowa is that Thursday’s schedule will remain in tact.
On Thursday night, a laundry list of area track and field teams will be running at Case Field, as Washington hosts a home co-ed. Joining the Demons will be Fairfield, Mt. Pleasant, Highland, Hillcrest Academy, Mid-Prairie and WACO.
Before that meet begins at 3:30 p.m., the area girls’ golf teams will be teeing off in Fairfield at 2 p.m. Fairfield Golf and Country Club will host its first meet of the year, an SEC regular season meet. The boys will begin at 4 p.m., in Fort Maidson.
On the soccer fields, Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant will go at it on the boys’ side at East Lake Park in Mt. Pleasant. That game will begin at 4:30 p.m.
The Trojan girls soccer team will host Mt. Pleasant on Friday at Fairfield High School. That game will begin at 5 p.m.
The Washington soccer teams take on Burlington on Thursday. The Demon girls will host Burlington at Washington Wellness Park, at 4:30 p.m., while the Washington boys will be at Burlington, at 5 p.m.
In tennis, Mt. Pleasant will host Fort Madison on the girls’ side and travel south to play the Bloodhounds on the girls’ side. The Fairfield boys host Burlington. All tennis matches begin at 4:30 p.m.
