Washington drops Edgewood-Colesburg, Northeast in weekend tournament

ANAMOSA — The Washington volleyball team was up north in Anamosa this weekend, taking part in a highly competitive weekend tournament.
The Demons went 2-2 at the tournament, picking up a win via the sweep and a three-setter.
Washington’s first win of the tournament came against Edgewood-Colesburg. The Demons won 21-8 and 21-19 to open the weekend off right.
Leighton Messinger had six kills in the win. Taylor Miksch and Layla Green finished with four apiece. Reagan Miller dished out eight assists.
Messinger and Miksch finished with six digs apiece. Green and Miller both had four aces.
Washington then took out Northeast in a much more competitive game. The Demons battled, but lost, 26-24, in the opening set, but battled back to win the next two, taking them 21-12 and 15-11.
Messinger had 10 kills in the victory over Northeast, while also leading the squad with 15 digs. Miksch and Green each finished with five kills, while Carys Miller dished out 14 assists. Green added five service aces.
The Demons fell to both Clear Creek-Amana and Dubuque Hempstead in the tourney. CCA defeated Washington 21-10, 20-10, and Dubuque Hempstead defeated the Demons 13-21, 21-14, 15-0.
Washington is now 4-6 overall and 1-0 in the Southeast Conference. The Demons will host Fairfield (8-2, 1-0) on Tuesday night.
