Demon wrestling team wins Southern Iowa Classic
The Washington wrestling team participated in the Southern Iowa Classic in Fairfield Saturday, Jan. 28, where they finished the day in first place out of 13 teams, scoring a total of 230.5 points with both Walker Ikerd (106) and Tristin Westphal-Edwards (160) finishing their weight classes in first place.

The Washington wrestling team participated in the Southern Iowa Classic in Fairfield Saturday, Jan. 28, where they finished the day in first place out of 13 teams, scoring a total of 230.5 points with both Walker Ikerd (106) and Tristin Westphal-Edwards (160) finishing their weight classes in first place.
Walker Ikerd scored a total of 25.5 team points. He won the quarterfinals by fall over Dakotah Selby from Albia by fall in 0:18.
He won the semifinals by tech fall over Elton Kruse from Fort Madison by a 20-4 technical fall in 4:33 and won the first place match by fall over Gabe Gordon from Knoxville in 0:22.
Garrett Ikerd (113) came in third place and scored 15.5 team points. He won the quarterfinals by fall over Kameron Butler from Knoxville by fall in 1:29.
He lost the semifinals by a 13-6 decision to Tyler Landgrebe from Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. He won the consolation semifinals by a 16-1 technical fall over Corbin Broeker from Mount Pleasant and won the third place match by a 5-2 decision over Gage Moorman from Centerville.
Dillan Sanders (120) came in fourth place and scored 15.5 team points. He won the quarterfinals by fall over Parker Hardy from Clarke by fall in 3:43.
He lost the semifinals by a 9-4 decision to Ashton Meyers from Keokuk. He won the consolation semifinals by a 15-0 technical fall over Nathan Steffensmeier from Fort Madison and lost the third place match to Sage Walker from Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont by fall in 1:54.
Kyle Anderson came in second place and scored 23 team points. He won the qualifying round by fall over Skylar Schau from Fort Madison in 2:52.
He won the quarterfinals by fall in 3:40 over Ethan Wagner from Centerville. He won the semifinals by a 14-1 major decision over Barrett Bonnett from Albia and lost the first place match by a 3-0 decision to Gabe Ruepke from Chariton.
Alex Latcham (132) came in second place and scored 16 team points. He had a bye in the quarterfinals and won by a 7-4 decision over Aaron Steffensmeier from Fort Madison in the semifinals.
He lost the first place match to Brant O?Shea from Keokuk by fall in 3:16.
Andrew Waite (138) came in second place and scored 22 team points. He won the quarterfinals by fall over Matt Wyatt from Keokuk by fall in 1:31.
He won the semifinals by fall over Dominick Morris from Albia in 0:23 and lost the first place match to Harlan Steffensmeier from Fort Madison by fall in 2:57.
Kiowa Keith (145) came in fourth place and scored nine team points. He lost the quarterfinals by fall in 3:47 to Dylan Jeffers from Keokuk.
He won the first consolation round by a 7-6 decision over Charles Heisel from Fairfield. He won the consolation semifinals by a 13-6 decision over Jaden Davis from Mount Pleasant and lost the third place match by an 18-1 technical fall to Jeffers.
Westphal-Edwards scored 24 team points. He won the quarterfinals by fall over Carter Spalla from Fairfield in 1:30.
He won the semifinals by fall over Dalton Griffiths from Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in 1:13 and won the first place match by a 9-8 decision over Michael Ullestad from Knoxville.
Logan Escher (170) came in second place and scored 18 team points. He won the quarterfinals by a 4-3 decision over Stephen Wardlow from Centerville.
He won the semifinals by fall in 2:33 over Gaige Berryman from Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. He lost the first place match by an 11-1 major decision to Kyle Sinnott from Albia.
Karlton Skubal (195) finished in third place and scored 20 team points. He won the quarterfinals by fall over Mansel Johnston from Knoxville in 0:25.
He lost the semifinals to Sam Hayes from Fort Madison by injury default in 3:00. He won the consolation semifinals by fall in 4:41 over Matt Cobler, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, and won the third place match by fall over Terrin Padilla from Albia in 1:05.
Tanner Murphy (220) came in second place and scored 20 team points. He won the quarterfinals by fall over Logan Hale from Davis County by fall in 0:46.
He won the semifinals over Trenton Hanen from Fairfield by a 4-2 sudden victory. He lost the first place match to Dalton Shull from Mount Pleasant by a 6-2 decision.
Mitchell Huisenga (285) placed second and scored 22 team points. He won the quarterfinals by fall in 0:38 over Trenten Bogle from Centerville.
He won the semifinals by fall in 2:51 over Louie Chickering from Davis County and lost the first place match by a 2-1 decision to Brendon Lunsford from Fairfield.
The team next takes to the mats Saturday, Feb. 4, at Keokuk beginning at 12 p.m.
