Demons, Bears and Wildcats eliminated from soccer playoffs

The 2023 soccer postseason came to an end for three area teams on Monday in the Substate semifinals.
Carlisle 2, Washington 0
The Demons lost a tough one at Carlisle in Class 3A Substate 8 action.
Washington keeper Will Gilchrist-Brock made 11 saves on the day, but the Demons couldn’t get any goals on the board. Carlisle scored one goal in the first half and one in the second.
Washington’s Emanuel Raymundo finished the season with a career-high 25 assists for the Demons. The team said goodbye to seniors Fredy Aguilar, DaShaun Westphal-Edwards, Julian Marcelino and Brian Fritz, as well as foreign exchange students Jaime Esquivel and Leo Nolden.
West Liberty 10, Danville-New London 0
In Class 1A Substate 5, D-NL was shut out by top-seeded West Liberty.
The Bears were done in by a Comet squad that takes a 14-2 record into the next round.
Mediapolis 1, Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union 0
The Wildcats were downed by the Bulldogs when Mediapolis’ Lance Ludens scored a game-winning goal in overtime.
The Wildcats finished just under .500 on the year, at 8-9.
