Although Mother Nature didn't cooperate, it was still a memorable night for Washington High School seniors Thursday at Case Field.
Those seniors are Cade Hennigan, Ben Schiefer, Mitchell Driscoll, Lincoln Kleese, Sam Hall, Cade Pohren, Marshall Patterson, Eduardo Herrera, Isabel Bailey, Ashley Telleen, Peyton Cuddeback and Jenah Greiner, who was injured and couldn't compete.
'I know those seniors made a lot of memories in their time here and left it all out on the track,” WHS boys coach Steve Roth said.
'It went really well,” WHS girls coach Stefanie Haworth said. 'Isabel ran a great hundred in the sprint medley, which had their best time of the season to place third. She got third in the hundred with her season-best time (13.45 seconds). She got second in the 200 meters (29.02) and fourth in the long jump (14 feet, 11 inches), which disappointed her. She scratched on two really good jumps. Ashley anchored the sprint med, was third in the 400 hurdles (1 minute, 16.2 seconds) and fifth the 100 hurdles and had a nice solid split in the 4x4 to get us into fourth. Peyton had a season-best time in both the 3000 and the 1500. That is hard to do with both races in the same night. We tried some different things and had some fun. Those seniors had a great night for us so it was good to see them compete well.”
The Demons were fourth in the girls team standings.
'All my seniors were just fantastic,” Roth said. 'That is all I can ask for. I don't worry about winning. I want them to chase and get better and if that goes right, good things will happen. It's all about the end of the season. I am so proud of what these guys have done and what they are going to do.”
Driscoll won the 400 with a time of 52.07. Kleese was second with a long jump of 20-3. Hennigan was second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.16 while Kleese was fifth in 16.8. Pouren was sixth in the 100 in 12.25. Patterson placed seventh in the shot at 37-7 and Hall was ninth at 37-6.
The Demons were second in the boys team standings. The Demons won the distance medley in 3:52.85. They won the sprint medley relay with a time of 1:39.31 and the 4x1 was second in 45.41 as was the 4x4 with a time of 3:39.12. The shuttle hurdle relay placed second at 1:06.95. Brandon Dickel was third in the 100 in 12.12. Adam Kael was third in the discus, unleashing a toss of 124-2. Wyatt Stout was third in the high jump with a leap of 5-8. Justin Simmering was third in the 800 with a time of 2:08.18 and Evan Horak sixth at 2:15.77. Horak was third in the 3200 in 10:40.59 and sixth in the 1600 at 4:55.33.
In the girls meet, Highland won the 4x2 in 1:54.36. Emily Yahnke won the long jump at 16-1 and Aly Stokes was second at 15-3.
In the boys meet, WACO's Colton Horak was second in the 400 hurdles in 58.75 and third in the 100 hurdles in 16.41. The WACO sprint medley was third in 1:42.81.
