WASHINGTON — Washington baseball picked up its third Southeast Conference win in comeback fashion on Thursday night against Keokuk, 7-6.
The Demons fell behind early as the Chiefs rattled off three runs in the first inning, followed by another in the second.
Washington found its spark in the third, as it notched five straight hits all with two outs to bring the game even, 4-4.
After neither team scored in the fourth, Keokuk once again created some separation with a run each in the fifth and sixth.
However, the Chiefs advantage was short-lived as the Demons rallied for three runs to take their first lead of the night.
With the bases loaded and only one out, a wild pitch scored one run and then Nate Edmonds stepped up with two down and put the ball in play. The throw to first was errant and both the tying and go-ahead run scored.
That’s all the Demons would need.
Luke Schiebel closed the game, picking up two strikeouts.
With the win, Washington improves to 4-12 on the season and 3-8 in SEC action.
