FAIRFIELD — In the battle between Washington and Fairfield boys soccer, it’s the Demons who own the regular season series this year.
With a 5-1 victory on Monday night, Washington completes the season sweep of Fairfield. The Demons took the first meeting 1-0.
Washington wasted no time putting points on the board in the Southeast Conference matchup.
Edwin Cortes and Joshua Perez quickly gave the Demons a 2-0 lead within the first minute of the game.
Fairfield pushed the ball downfield, continually creating opportunities through the opening half, but none found the target.
Thirty-two minutes after the pair of scores, Emanuel Raymundo, who assisted on Perez’s goal, gave the Demons a 3-0 advantage. Fredy Aguilar assisted on the goal.
That was all the damage done through the opening half, but the Trojans could never make up the difference.
In the second half, Fairfield was able to get one back, but that’s all it would muster.
Meanwhile, the Demons added an additional two goals. Raymundo notched his second of the game in the 51st minute on yet another pass from Aguilar.
Aguilar capped off Washington’s day with the fifth and final goal of the campaign in the 78th minute.
Will Gilchrist Brock accumulated eight saves in the game.
With the win, Washington improves to 7-4 on the year. Fairfield drops to 3-6.
Washington has now won four straight against Fairfield going back to last season.
The Trojans hold the historical record at 21-6.
