It was a windy day on the course, but that didn?t stop the Washington girls? golf team from excelling on Monday afternoon.
The Demons fought through the cold and wind to earn a dual meet victory over rival Mt. Pleasant, winning the day with a team score of 187 at the Washington Golf and Country Club.
?Our score wasn?t as low as it was the first couple of rounds, but I would take that in a heartbeat,? Washington girls? golf coach Leonard Kull said. ?It was challenging with the wind, and I complimented the girls on not complaining about the weather.?
Washington freshman Sarah Nacos continued her strong start to the season, taking meet medalist honors with a nine-hole score of 42.
Junior Deanna Peiffer followed Nacos on the team with a 45, while senior Sarah Waite had a 48 for the Demons, who Kull said were excited to take on the rival Panthers on Monday.
?The last couple of years (Mt. Pleasant has) had a fine team and we?ve found the sledding difficult against them,? Kull said. ?They were a little bit anxious out there, and I?ll take that. We still have a lot of things to work on, and have a little time.?
Brenna Burlingame had a 52 for the Demons, while the team scores were rounded out with Megan Strabala and Brenna Weidman?s 64, and Meredith Lumberg?s 66.
The Demons will host a triangular at Washington Golf and Country Club on Tuesday with Pella and Ottumwa, which will begin at 4 p.m.
