FAIRFIELD — Thursday’s Southeast Conference girls soccer match was won by visiting Washington 6-0.
Trina Griffin, Audrey Anderson and Taylor Brinning scored goals for Washington. Greta Rothe and Giselle Marcelino put in strong performances as playmakers.
“It was a great defensive effort from Sarah Hall, Lindsay Diaz and Jaden Chalupa,” Washington coach Steven Caulk said. “They broke up many of the attacking plays from Fairfield before the opponents reached our box.”
Fairfield goalkeeper Trisha Westphal had 12 saves.
“Our season has been a rebuilding year with a lot of learning and growing,” Fairfield head coach Brittany Metcalf said. “Although we have lost most of our games, our girls have improved from the start of the year, so I am confident we will pick up another win before the season is over.”
Fairfield is 1-9 overall, 1-7 in the SEC and plays at Centerville (6-5) Thursday, then hosts Oskaloosa (2-6) Friday.
The Demons are 5-4, 3-4 in the conference with Mt. Pleasant (8-0) visiting for Monday’s game and Iowa City Liberty (7-4) coming to Washington Thursday.
