ANAMOSA — The Washington girls basketball team wasn’t messing round when it took a trip north to play Anamosa in the season opener. The Demons crunched a struggling Blue Raider program 62-19.
Washington scored in double digits in every single quarter, and held Anamosa to single digits in every quarter as well. The Demons led 15-4 after the first period, 34-12 at halftime and 44-14 after three.
The Demons hit nine 3-pointers in the blowout win, outscoring the Blue Raiders with outside shots alone.
Washington got the chance to show off its strong freshman class. Leighton Messinger led the way with 13 points, and Adalyn Long scored 11.
The Demons have now had two blowout wins in a row, including their Hall of Pride scrimmage at Wapello. The Demons rolled 82-24 against the Arrows on Nov. 18.
Washington (1-0) will next play at Fairfield (0-1) on Dec. 2.
