Demons dominate day 1
Washington strikes first in SEC boys golf race

FORT MADISON — The Washington boys golf team threw the first punch in the 2024 Southeast Conference boys golf race on Monday. The Demons took first in the opening meet of the year, winning the meet with 145 strokes.
Mt. Pleasant and Fairfield finished right behind Washington. The Panthers were second, shooting a 171, and Fairfield tied for third, at 181.
The Demons had four of the Top-5 finishers on the day. Defending Class 3A state champion Roman Roth took first, shooting a 34.
Rajan Roth was one shot behind his older brother, shooting 35 on the day. Drew Conrad took third overall, at 37.
Teague Mayer rounded out the Washington scorers with a fourth-place 39. Luke Beenblossom finished at 42, and Cole Vetter shot 47.
Mt. Pleasant’s Reece Coffman shot a 38, for fourth place. Brody Engle was the second Panther down the list, shooting 42. Merrick Lamm finished at 43, and Nate Dismang rounded out the Mt. Pleasant scorers with a 48.
Isaac Zihlman finished the day at 52. Alek Barton was right behind Zihlman, with a 53.
Fairfield was led by Sam Weaton, who shot a 42 on the day. Cason Miller and Drew Myers each finished the day at 46.
Archer Kreuter ended the day with a 47 to round out the Fairfield coaches. Landon Nodurft finished at 49, and Luke Thornton ended the tournament at 50.
