Washington uses stellar second quarter to blow by Albia

ALBIA — Washington ended 2021 on a sour note, suffering its first loss to in conference rival Fort Madison. Now in 2022, the Demons are back on track, picking up a 79-59 victory over Albia in the first game back from break on Tuesday night.
The Demons were clicking on all cylinders in their matchup with the Blue Demons, outscoring Albia in each of the first three quarters.
Washington finished the first quarter holding a 19-12 lead. In the second, the Demons turned up the heat. They scored 30 points for their best quarter, while holding Albia to its lowest scoring quarter of the night, 11 points.
After one half of play Washington had extended its lead to 26, leading 49-23.
The second quarter deficit would prove to be one the Albia couldn’t overcome, despite outscoring the Washington 36-30 in the second half. Washington won the third 21-16, while losing the fourth 20-9.
Washington is now 7-1 on the season and will be back to Southeast Conference action on Friday with the second of two matchups against Fairfield. The Demons won the first contest 50-45.
