WASHINGTON — Washington came into the Class 3A Substate 4 bracket as one of the top teams in the class.
The Demons showed why in a commanding round one victory over South Tama 54-29.
Washington used a big first half to create all the separation it needed to send the Trojans packing.
In the first quarter, the Demons nearly topped the Trojans final point total. Washington held South Tama to just three points in first, while raining in 22 of its own.
The second quarter was more of the same. Washington outscored South Tama 21-12, building up a 43-15 lead heading into the locker room at the half.
Washington slowed down in the second half on the offensive end, scoring just 11 total points in the third and fourth, but thanks to the Demon defense and the stellar first half it didn’t make a difference.
South Tama was held scoreless in third and finished with 14 points in the fourth, but it was Washington coming away with a 25 point victory and a semifinal appearance.
Washington will take on Solon (14-9) on Feb. 24 for a trip to the Substate 4 final.
