WASHINGTON — Washington baseball suffered a pair of defeats on Monday night to Southeast Conference foe Keokuk.
The Demons were bested by the Chiefs 13-4 in the first of two games and 14-3 in the second.
In game one, the Demons never led.
Keokuk opened the game up with three runs in the top of the first inning.
Washington was able to cut it to one after plating a pair in the bottom of the second after Chase Griener and Austin Rebling RBIs.
After the Chiefs pushed their lead to two runs, 4-2, in the top of the third inning, both teams followed without a run through the fourth and fifth.
Washington’s Isaac Vetter and Ethan Patterson picked up a pair of RBIs in the bottom of the sixth to knot the game at 4-4.
Keokuk came back in a big way, plating a whopping nine runs in the top of the seventh.
The Demons could never make up the deficit after that.
Austin Rebling finished with two hits and an RBI in the loss.
Luke Beenblossom, Vetter, Noah Greiner, Chase Greiner and James Strabala all had one hit.
In the final matchup of the evening, Washington got things going with a single run in the first frame, but that is the last time they would lead.
Despite scoring one run in each of the opening three innings, Keokuk’s six runs in the second were more than enough.
The Chiefs brought eight more home in the fourth to end the game in four innings.
Isaac Vetter and Ethan Patterson both had two hits in the game. Vetter tallied the lone RBI.
Luke Beenblossom, Kael Williams and Chase Greiner each had one hit.
The pair of losses moves the Demons to 4-14 on the season and 4-7 in Southeast Conference play.
