The Demons enjoyed a fantastic game from reigning SEC Player of the Year Leighton Messinger, who led the way with 12 kills. Ella Greiner and Layla Green each had six kills, and Taylor Miksch finished with five.
Lauren Hinrichsen got the lion’s share of aassists, dishing out 24 helpers on the day. Messinger and Greiner finished with 14 and 12 digs respectively, and Hinrichsen finished with nine.
The Demons had nine aces at the service line. Miksch, Ellie Farmer, Hinrichsen and Greiner each had a pair of aces, while Ruby Witthoft finished with one.
The win not only brought the Demons to 1-0 in conference play, but 3-3 overall. Washington competed in a stacked Grinnell tournament field over the weekend, collecting two set wins over both Urbandale and Iowa City West, while falling to Clear Creek-Amana once and Dallas Center-Grimes twice.
