Washington scores six runs in fourth inning to get by Highland

RIVERSIDE — Washington baseball kicked off its 2025 campaign on Tuesday night with a resilient 7-5 comeback victory over the Huskies of Highland.
Highland took the early lead, but Washington showed composure to secure the win.
The Huskies took advantage of early miscues by the Demons and turned it into three runs through the first three innings.
Highland scored twice in the first inning off a pair of walks and two hit batters. Highland’s Caleb Wheeler was hit by a pitch with the bases juiced, bringing Hunter Seibel home. Landon Roling then scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0.
In the third, the Huskies tacked on one more when Ryker Miller singled and eventually made it home on a Washington error.
Washington responded an inning later as the Demons surged at the plate. The Demons sent nine batters to the box and ended up rattling off six runs.
Boden Brown, Julian Parsons, Mitchell Zieglowsky, Luke Schiebel, Ethen Peebler and Isaac Medrano all crossed the plate. Peebler contributed two RBIs, while Blayze Richardson and Tyress Wright each drove in a run. The Demons’ seventh run came after Conner Leyden scored on a passed ball to make it 7-3.
Highland worked to get back into it when Miller scored on an error in the bottom of the fifth and once again in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough in the end.
Leyden earned the win on the hill, pitching three innings and allowing two hits, three runs (two earned), two walks and four strikeouts. Richardson closed with four innings.
At the plate, Zieglowsky had two hits, while Nate Edmonds, Leyden, Parsons, Peebler and Wright had one. Peebler and Wright each had RBIs as well.
For Highland, Miller finished with two hits and three runs. Caleb Wheeler had an RBIs as well.
