After a tough loss on Friday night to Fort Madison, the Demons rebounded one day later.
A shuffled starting lineup led to success for the Washington girls? basketball team, as they defeated Tipton on the road, 43-38.
?We changed the starting lineup a little bit after Friday,? Washington head coach Jay Zieglowsky said. ?I think that might have upset the chemistry a little bit, so we didn?t start as well, but even though Tipton has only won one game this year, they?ve been playing better basketball lately.?
The Demons improved to 6-14 on the season, earning their second win in three tries.
Washington was led by junior Addie Pacha, who finished with team highs in points (10) and rebounds (six).
Freshman Sarah Nacos had eight points and three steals for the Demons, while sophomore Lexi Redlinger had seven points and five rebounds in her first varsity start of her career.
?I thought they responded,? Zieglowsky said. ?We don?t have any stars on this team. We have blue-collar workers that work their tails off. If it?s someone?s night, great, they?ll play a little more. On Saturday we had some girls disappointed because they didn?t get to play more toward the end of the game, but with a five-point lead, I want my five best defensive players in there.?
The Demons have the week off until they wrap up the regular season against Mt. Pleasant at home on Friday night, a game where they will have their hands full with the No. 15 team in Class 4A.
?Mt. Pleasant is playing some really good basketball right now,? Zieglowsky said. ?We have to take care of the basketball. Watching film from before, the press got to us a little bit. We need to handle the pressure and be patient on offense. We put emphasis on it in practice.?
Tip-off is set for 7:45 on Friday night.
