DAVENPORT — Washington football suffered just its second loss of the season on Friday as the Demons fell to the Knights of Assumption 34-6.
The Demons were looking to keep a firm hold at the top of Class 3A’s District 4, but the Knights had other ideas.
It was a tough night from the get.
On the opening drive, Washington quarterback Logan McDole was picked off for the first time this season and Assumption capitalized.
The Knights followed the Demon turnover with the first points of the evening as Ben Yeggy cross the goal line on a 36-yard rushing score giving Assumption the 7-0 lead.
Washington responded as McDole hit Conner Leyden for a 59-yard touchdown to make it 7-6, but Assumption only increased its lead from then on out.
Braylon Thomsen threw two touchdowns before halftime to put the Knights up 21-6.
Receiving the ball out of the break, Assumption found pay dirt once again as Yeggy scored his second of the game to push the score to 27-6.
The Demons could never find an answer as Yeggy notched another six in the fourth to seal it.
McDole finished with 138 yards and one touchdown through the air with two interceptions. He also led the Demons on the ground with 44 yards.
Kael Williams followed with 20 yards rushing on six carries.
In the receiving game, Conner Leyden caught the lone touchdown for 59 yards. Williams had three receptions for 61 yards and Jayfred Espionsa had three catches for 18 yards.
Mason Morgan and Rudy Wolfe both recovered fumbles for the Demons as well.
With the loss, Washington drops to 2-1 in 3A District 4 play and 5-2 on the season.
Washington will look to get back on the winning track on Friday when they host No. 5 Mount Vernon (5-1).
