Washington boys and girls both fall in Albia

ALBIA — It was the a battle of Demons in Albia on Tuesday night, as the Washington basketball teams traveled to play the Blue Demons in a non-conference basketball doubleheader.
Both teams led early but faced a disaster second quarter in the double dip, which saw Albia win the girls’ game 48-33, and the boys’ game 82-49.
The Washington girls led 12-9 after the first quarter, but Albia buckled down in the second, took the lead and grew it to double digits, going up 30-16 at halftime.
Washington doubled up Albia 8-4 in the third quarter to cut the Blue Demon lead to 34-24 after three quarters, but Washington couldn’t keep up momentum in the fourth.
Washington’s lone double-digit scorer was Adalyn Long, who scored 13 points. Oaklee Sobaski had eight.
The Washington boys had a first quarter lead of their own, going up 16-11 after eight minutes. Albia went on an incredible second-quarter run, outscoring the Demons 24-8 to take a 35-24 advantage into halftime.
The Demon boys couldn’t get back on track, getting outscored 18-11 in the third and 29-14 in the fourth.
Nic Stone and Logan McDole scored 12 and 11 points respectively to lead the Demons boys.
The Washington girls are now 1-1 overall. The boys are 0-1. Both teams will host Oskaloosa on Thursday night.
