Washington won the first set against their conference opponents handily, 25-8. The Bloodhounds played better in the final two frames but the Demons proved to be too much for them, taking those sets 25-22 and 25-23, respectively.
?The match went really well last night,? said Demon head coach Jeff Spenner. ?We had a great practice the night before. Our girls started off really aggressively. They (the Bloodhounds) came back and played stronger against us after the first set.?
Senior Kathleen Kennedy was 18-19 in serving and smacked three aces from that service line. Kennedy also finished with 16 assists and 10 digs. Senior Marissa Gaal contributed two aces in a 14-15 serving performance.
Junior Lauren Vittetoe went 14-15 from the line and dug out 10 balls. Junior Sydney Greiner had eight kills. Senior Cassie Holland posted six kills and three blocks. Sophomore Johannah Vittetoe swatted five kills, and junior Jordan Mellinger racked up 12 digs. Junior Tara Zwer raked in 10 digs.
Spenner remarked that there was no single player who stood out above the rest Tuesday night.
?Every girl has shown improvement in different aspects of the game since the beginning of the season,? he said. ?We improved in a lot of areas last night. One of those areas was serving. We served 95 percent. When we do that, it?s easier on our defense.?
