The strong start to 2016 continued for the Washington girls? basketball team on Saturday evening, as the Demons picked up their fourth win in their last five tries.
A home victory over Oskaloosa, 53-50, helped the Demons get back to .500 for the third time this season, as the team sits at 6-6 on the season (2-2 in conference play).
Despite a high-scoring first half for the Demons, they didn?t start to do their damage against Oskaloosa until the second half on Saturday night.
Washington held tight with the Indians in the first quarter, but a 10-1 run gave Osky a 23-14 lead halfway through the second quarter.
An 11-2 run by the Demons answered the Indian run, tying the game up at 25 apiece, before a Morgan Kimball 3-point shot put Washington up by one before the halftime break.
Oskaloosa took the lead back early in the second half, but Washington quickly regained the lead and didn?t look back, extending its lead to as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter.
After Washington took a 47-37 lead, the Indians went on a 13-4 run to close the gap to one point, but free throws from Amber Salow and Addie Pacha closed out the game.
Leading the charge in the game was sophomore guard Sarah Nacos, who notched a team-high 19 points in the contest, assisted by four 3-pointers in the contest.
Kimball added 13 points, shooting 8-of-12 from the free throw line, while Salow grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds to go with eight points.
Pacha finished the contest with nine points and nine rebounds.
The Demons will look to go over .500 for the first time this season when they take on Muscatine on the road on Tuesday night.
