Washington softball has been playing some great ball as of late against some tough opponents at that.
On Tuesday, the Demons faced their third ranked team in the past week, the No. 11 (Class 4A) Clippers of Clear Creek-Amana.
The Demons were just one run away from downing the Clippers in the bout on Tuesday night, but came up short 5-4.
Clear Creek-Amana held a 1-0 lead after the first inning, but Washington took a hold of the game with a pair of runs in the top of the second and would lead for the next three innings.
Washington increased it lead to 3-1 with a run in the top of the fifth, but an inning later the Clippers clawed back into it.
The Clippers brought three runs across home plate in the bottom of the sixth to put the Demons at a deficit once again, 4-3.
Washington would never lead again, but they made Clear Creek work for it.
In the top of the seventh, the Demons knotted the game at 4-4 with a single run.
However, that would be the final run by the Demons.
Washington was able to hold Clear Creek scoreless in the bottom of the seventh frame, but in the eighth the Clippers brought the game winning home.
Ella Greiner and Isabella Salazar both finished with a pair of hits in the loss.
Greiner had two RBIs and Salazar one as well.
Leighton Salazar, Haley Mitchell, Colbie Greiner and Alyvia Anderson notched a hit as well.
Mitchell finished with one RBI.
Isabella Salazar threw a complete game, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits and six strikeouts.
Washington moves to 10-5 on the season and will take on Fort Madison on Thursday.
